Guitarist Richard Marlow, dancer Sara Jerez-Marlow and son are back from their travels. They should be back at their usual shows this week. Their son is taking time off from performing to work on his debut CD. :)

Many people called, sent emails, cards etc for my birthday. Thank you to everyone! Here are some pics from last night's party, courtesy of Kayoko. It was great show last night too, considering that we had two video crews (led respectively by Navin Kulshreshtha and Juan Martín) recording every inspiring moment (and mistake). :)

Dancer Tamara Sol Flys (rhymes with bliss) will be making her Cafe Citron debut tonight. She's become the favorite substitute dancer lately, having danced at Las Tapas, Elena's Oven, Jaleo and last Thursday at Bambule.

Did I mention that today is my birthday? There's no official party planned, but if you're free, come to Cafe Citron tonight and help fill up the place with friends to inspire us for a great performance for Navin's flamenco documentary.

Just to clear up a few misconceptions: yes there IS a weekly flamenco dance show at Andalucia Restaurant. Currently there is only ONE restaurant named Andalucia in the DC area and it is in Rockville. The owner of the Andalucia Bethesda (now closed) opened a new restaurant called Sol de Andalucia--great food but NO flamenco show.

Read about the flamenco-related documentary called Polígono Sur (Seville Southside) directed by Dominique Abel. Details.

A new tapas restaurant is being built in Arlington, VA. Completion is scheduled for Fall 2003. It will be the first USA branch of the UK-based La Tasca chain of restaurants. Will this become a tablao like Las Tapas or a Sevillanas show like Jaleo? We'll just have to wait and see.

Dancer Tamara Sol Flys (rhymes with bliss) is back from Spain (as of last week). She's making quite an impression with her dancing. If you haven't seen her yet, come to Cafe Citron on Monday July 28 (What a great way to spend my birthday!).

Tamara is giving a flamenco workshop in PA for children and teenagers this Friday July 18. Call 717-227-1166.

Interestingly, there's a PR firm that calls itself Duende Communications. Can you think of other companies named under flamenco-related words?

There are aspects of flamenco which are easier to appreciate and to be excited by, and these are the ones which tend to be exploited; real flamenco demands a deep and intense commitment.
