Open House/Sevillanas Workshop with Ziva at Cabin John Mall
Come to the Open House from noon to 1:30pm for free dance demonstrations and class registration for the upcoming Winter Session (January 10 - March 20, 2005). Cabin John Mall (second floor) is located at 11325 Seven Locks Rd in Potomac. Directions and metro access info available at Ziva's website.

Flamenco Gala 2005: Los 4 Elementos (The Four Elements) at Lisner
Four Elements, four styles which create the world of Flamenco. This opening night featuring Carmen Cortes, Gerardo Nuñez, Alejandro Granados, Carlos Rodriguez and Rocio Molina will bring together puro and contemporary interpration in tribute to the vitality of flamenco.

Ballet Flamenco Sara Baras: Sueños (Dreams) at Lisner
Sara Baras, Spain's most popular dancer, will return to Flamenco Festival DC after her acclaimed appearance at Flamenco Festival 2003. Noted for her brilliant footwork and powerful presence, she has won numerous awards for her dancing and choreography, including the prestigious National Award of Dance.
In this concert Baras will present Sueños (Dreams), a program of traditional flamenco that established her reputation as a flamenco star. Her company of eight dancers and seven musicians, formed in 1998, has performed to critical acclaim throughout the world.

Cañizares and Jose Maria Gallardo: Mano a Mano at Lisner
This program features two of the most important soloists of classical and flamenco guitar. This cross-over concert will highlight the different techniques unified by the artistry of these two guitarists.
Jose Maria Gallardo is recognized worldwide for his brilliant interpretation and impeccable skill in classical guitar. He has performed in the most important theaters in the world, with artists of the stature of Teresa Berganza, Frübeck de Burgos, Ros Marbá, García Asensio, García Navarro, Philippe Entremont, Raymond Calcraft, and Leo Brouwer.
Cañizares is also one of today's most virtuosic guitarists. He is known through his work with Paco de Lucía, Enrique Morente, and Camarón. He has also collaborated outside the flamenco world with artists such as Al Di Meola, Mike Stern, Peter Erskine and The Chieftans.

Crossroads: Honoring Tradition & Embracing the Future of Music and Dance at Lisner
In a U.S. premiere before heading to NYC's Carnegie Hall, some of today's greatest Spanish artists utilize flamenco music and dance to conquer new artistic horizons; bringing together several generations of artists and exploring flamenco blended with jazz, pop and classical forms.
Carmen Linares, the greatest female voice of flamenco today, will be joined by the next generation of vocalists: Arcángel and Miguel Poveda, both known for their work in classic flamenco, and Diego Carrasco, recognized for bringing together flamenco with contemporary songs and pop. Rafaela Carrasco accompanies with passionate dance that has made flamenco famous worldwide.

A taste of this sensuous Spanish art transformed Martin Santangelo's life: he moved to Spain, married dancer Soledad Barrio, and together they founded their internationally famous troupe Noche Flamenca. George C. Wolfe, head of New York's famed Public Theater, says "They're brilliant. Soledad is a once-in-a-lifetime performer who combines overwhelming physicality and spirituality."
