Just heard that my dancer friend Kyoko got a very cool flamenco gig on the Voyager of the Seas. She writes: ...i only perform twice a week so it's like a paid vacation! we start off every week in barcelona, and depending on the itinerary of the week, we head over to nice, livorno (near pisa/florence), civitavecchia (near rome), napoli, sicily, malta, sardinia, palma de mallorca, and/or the canary islands. the theater on this ship seats 1350 passengers (it's 3-stories high) and they have awesome lighting and sound systems...

Just added the contact info for the new guitarist town, Frank Guillen. Actually I met him last year at Citron but he went off to Spain to study and now he's back and ready to teach/perform. Currently he plays for local dance classes and will be performing with Mirada Flamenca this weekend. Welcome to the DC community Frank! See Teacher page.

Latest rumba updates: last night I found out that Duende Camarón is no longer performing at Guarapo. On Thursday nights, they're now at Famoso Restaurant in Friendship Heights (near the Pink Flamenco). Call 301-986-8785.
Also guitarists Ramin Rad and Amilcar Cruz are performing rumbas at Ceviche in Silver Spring on Friday nights. Call 301-608-0081.

This month's Sala Rociera party will include a 
rumba warm-up session taught by Genoveva, but with limited space, registration is required.
Are us flamencos indirectly influencing the influx of the creative class to DC? GMU professor Richard Florida, author of "The Rise of the Creative Class" mentioned DC Flamenco in his blog last Tuesday.

4/4/2007Manny Roca, a former DC flamenco, just inaugurated an exhibition of his flamenco photos in Spain.
Tomorrow (Thursday) I'll be performing at the Andalucía with Pam de Ocampo.
I was at the Cherry Blossom Festival today checking out what all the hype's about. Here are some pics from when I performed at the Festival in 2004 with Kayoko Iwamoto, Ginette Perea and company.

4/3/2007Rumba shows are popping up all over. Guitarists Gerard Moreno and Behzad Habibzai now perform on Thursday nights at Rumberos down the street from Gala Theatre (close to Columbia Heights metro). Other venues with rumba shows: M Cafe Bar, Famoso Restaurant (both in Friendship Heights near Pink Flamenco) and 2941 in Falls Church, VA.
DC's José Andrés (owner of Jaleo) won in a battle against Bobby Flay this past Sunday on Iron Chef.
As of today, my flamenco themed MySpace profile has been accessed 10,000 times and I now have 832 MySpace friends! OK, so yeah it's a social networking service (currently the most popular of its kind), but it's also a great publicity tool especially for performing artists like myself.
