Miguelito's Photo DiaryMarch 27, 2004 - March 29, 2004
Sala Rociera pics by Miguelito March 27, 2004 The Sala Rociera party is a monthly flamenco party meant to give flamenco students (dancers and guitarists alike) the opportunity to apply what they learn in a friendly flamenco fiesta atmosphere. It took place at the Mediterranean Cafe (near the Tenleytown Metro). Gloria de Jerez leads in a tangos. The next Sala Rociera party will be on Friday April 30, 2004. He recently got a cushy job out-of-state and we may not see him for awhile. Good luck, Bruno! (email me if you want an invite to his farewell party this Friday) Paul is studying flamenco guitar but his day job has been keeping him quite busy the past year. Good to have back you Paul! We always put on an excellent show, but the size of the audience is largely dependent on the growth stage of the cherry tree flowers. While they weren't in full bloom, they were good enough to attract an abundant audience---thank you Mother Nature! We live in a beautiful city! It's about time for me to do the tourist thing again to appreciate what we have here: checkout some museums, revisit the monuments etc. In a Washington Times article: Get out there and check the blossoms out while they're at their peak. Something to contemplate: like nature, art forms such as flamenco sometimes reveal their innermost beauty for only a moment at a time. So when you find yourself in that special flamenco moment, enjoy it as much as you can, because once it's gone, it's gone forever. March 27, 2004 1:32pm (photo by Gina) Yours truly making some introductory remarks and talking about the popularity of flamenco in Japan--and reading from my notes, ugh! OK, so I was out late late night and didn't memorize my lines! The intent of my introduction was to explain what attracts Japanese people to flamenco. While I can talk confidently about flamenco, I didn't want to unintentionally say the wrong thing about Japanese culture to an audience largely made up of Japanese people!
