3/27/2007Boston-based photographer Niko Alexandrou celebrates his birthday this week. He's provided the DC flamenco community with hundreds of professional quality photos over the years. Check out his flamenco photo exhibition from last year. In fact, I use one of his fabulous photos for my website logo (see top of this page). Thank you Niko for everything and happy birthday!
3/23/2007DC-based Guitarist percussionist Behzad Habibzai now has a monthly column in the Philly flamenco website titled Hear here.
Just heard: Taberna del Alabadero has three flamenco performances tonight, starting at 7ish-- Richard Marlow is playing. Even if the dinner seatings are sold out, there's usually standing room at the tapas bar. 202-429-2200

Yeah, I got the spring fever. :-) Thanks for all your emails asking me how I'm doing. With the recent warm weather, I've basically unplugged from the 'Net for a few days to get some fresh air and "exercise." I'll catch up on email and website updates soon.

3/14/2007I take pride in saying that two well-known highly-regarded flamenco websites are run by flamencos from DC: Miguelito (that's me!) for DCFlamenco.com and Ramin Rad who runs flamenco-teacher.com. It just so happens his birthday is this week. Happy birthday Ramin! Click on da pic to read the interview I did with him in 2002.
In addition to its already successful Saturday night flamenco shows, Tapeo (in Pentagon City) will try adding a second weekly flamenco show this Friday at 7:30pm featuring guitarist Kike with dancers Isabel and Nelson.
3/13/2007Just heard that there will be a flamenco show at Busboys and Poets on Tuesday March 20th. It's a fundraiser for César Chávez Public Charter School for Public Policy. Thanks to Heather for this info.
3/12/2007This Tuesday March 13th at 8:00pm Behzad Habibzai has put together a show titled Carmen's Tablao Flamenco at Gala Theatre-Tivoli 3333 14th St NW DC. Cast includes guitarist Behzad, cantaor Carlton Ashton, featured dancer Anna Menendez, members of Arte Flamenco and Spanish Dance Society, Anamer "Carmen" Castrello, Peter "Don José" Burroughs and pianist Carlos Rodriguez.
