Spectrum Theater in Rosslyn, VA July 10, 2004 This performance featuring Sara Candela, Gerard Moreno and yours truly, was part of a program called "Two Feet One Beat: Dances from Around the World." Produced by Janae Strader, this benefit concert raised money for the Center for Multicultural Human Services. She happily sat on the floor in front of the stage to get these shots from a child's point of view. Photos by Grecia. As you can see, Grecia is sitting underneath a table. The waiter just set down his tray as he served the guests. June 28, 2004 This particular night, we had a great DJ who played a lot of Spanish club music and some flamenco that got the crowd pumped up and dancing non-stop. The audience immediately took over our stage. June 28, 2004 When the DJ put on some Arabic tunes, Nora show us some of her belly dance moves. June 28, 2004 She even got me dancing too! :) June 28, 2004 Arte Flamenco at Latino Fest, Baltimore June 26, 2004 Baltimore-based dancer Tamara Sol Flys happened to be in the audience, so naturally I asked her to take pics for me. Sure enough, she was recruited at the last minute to join us onstage. So Tamara took pics from the performer's point of view. Unfortunately, most of them were too dark, but I published a few here anyway. Dancer Overton. June 26, 2004 Dancer Erika Olander. June 26, 2004 Dancers Pam, Sarah and Julie. June 21, 2004 The hardest part of my job: transporting sound equipment at the end of the night. June 21, 2004 Thank God the metro is open until midnight on Mondays! June 21, 2004 Cafe Citron June 19, 2004 When I first started at El Rincon Español in 1997, dancer Micaela Moreno and I heard someone doing palmas during our show. The palmas were perfectly in compas so we looked around to see who was doing it. Turned out to be a very adorable three-year-old Peruvian girl name Grecia. We asked her to join us onstage and from that day on whenever we performed there, Grecia gladly joined us in our show every weekend. For awhile, customers mistakenly thought that Micaela and I were married and that Grecia was our daughter. :) No, we weren't married, but Grecia became like a daughter to both of us over the years. Summer 1997 pic of Micaela with Grecia at the age of 3. Summer 1997 pic of Miguelito, Grecia and Micaela at Rincon Espanol Grecia, now ten-years-old, is taller than my guitar! June 19, 2004 That thing around my neck is my mp3 player. It allows me to listen to a couple of hours worth of music while riding the metro to and from my gigs. June 19, 2004 This is the restaurant where I did shows on and off for a few years with dancer Micaela Moreno. June 19, 2004 Cafe Ole June 18, 2004 In case you didn't know, yes, I've been doing this rumba gig on Fridays and Saturdays for the past month or so. But I haven't advertised it heavily since we've been cancelled so many times due to rainy weather. Behzad can see a dark cloud heading in our direction. Bad news. June 18, 2004 Behzad and Gerard individually express their feelings of disappointment. June 18, 2004 Andalucia June 17, 2004 My thanks to Niko for taking these photos.
