La Tasca DC February 25, 2004

La Tasca DC, at 722 7th St NW DC in Chinatown, is the first branch in the United States for this UK-based chain of restaurants. They opened in November 2003. For more info call (202)347-9190.

My friend Carlton Ashton and I just finished talking with the manager and setup a weekly flamenco show starting next Wednesday March 3rd with showtimes at 6pm and 7pm. We're making calls to find dancers and to spread the news about the show. February 25, 2004 4:09pm

The show will be by the bar. This is the performer's viewpoint. February 25, 2004 4:20pm

Another performer's viewpoint. Yeah it looks slow, but it's only four o'clock in the afternoon! February 25, 2004 4:23pm

The front of the restaurant. Notice the Chinese character version of the restaurant name. This place is conveniently down the street from the Gallery Place metro and the MCI center. February 25, 2004 4:26pm

Warner Theatre February 24, 2004

Finally! The last concert of this flamenco-packed month. Paco de Lucia, in what was billed as his final tour, performed last night at the Warner Theatre. Man...of all the times I could forget to bring my binoculars, this was one of them. So instead of coming to "analyze and study" Paco's hands, I just sat back, relaxed and listened to the music purely for enjoyment.

Only a few pics this time. Just wasn't in a photographer mood, so sue me! :P

As usual I enjoyed seeing a lot of old and new faces during intermission. I met in person for the first time several of my regular website visitors. They were all very grateful for the work I've done. One of them even managed to get a ticket for tonight's concert at the last minute thanks to the message board.

Clarice Smith Center February 21, 2004

After hanging out at the Guitar Gallery, I got on the metro to head on over to the University of Maryland, College Park to perform at the beautiful Gildenhorn Hall at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center. I was one of several performers that evening in a concert that featured non-Western musical forms, poetry, dance and drama.

It was the annual benefit concert for the the National Capital area Region of the National Conference for Community and Justice. Proceeds go to the youth outreach program entitled Youth Building Bridges.

Some people might find it ironic that at a time when business is slow for all of us local performers, that I'm taking the time out do benefits like these. Then again, I realize that what I do is not really a job. I truly enjoy performing and sharing my love of flamenco. Performing is a reward in itself. I'm doing more benefits the following two weekends.

On Saturday February 28th, I'll be doing a benefit with dancers Cecilia Terrasa, Jena Palacios and Guadalupe Cerritos and guitarist RJ Uebersezig for LULAC (League of United Latin American Citizens) for their scholarship gala. Tickets $50.

On Saturday March 6th, dancer Tamara Sol Flys and I will be doing a benefit for the Penn Mar Foundation. Tickets are $1200, $2500 and $5000. I know it's pricey, but some of my wealthier friends can afford it! :)

You know what they say, "Good deeds are returned! It will come back to you later."
