Tamara Sol's class in Baltimore April 4, 2004 This morning I met up again with three of Anna Menendez's dance students for a group practice session--I'm so proud of them for making the effort to practice outside of class on a regular basis! My presence there made a huge difference in the learning experience because working with a guitarist is much more difficult than working with a recording because, as a dancer, you not only have to know your steps, but more importantly, you must know how those steps fit within the framework of the compás. It doesn't matter how well you can dance with a CD. Too often I've met CD-trained dancers who disappoint themselves when they work with a guitarist for the first time and fail miserably to keep the compas. That's normal, trust me. But the only way to learn to work with a guitarist is just to do it, make mistakes along the way and learn from them. If you're really fortunate, you'll have a guitarist in your dance class. Today, Tamara Sol's class had three: Brock, Juan Delgado and yours truly. Guitarist Juan Delgado arriving at the Experimental Movement Concepts studio in Baltimore. April 4, 2004 8:35pm After the class, Juan and I grabbed a bite and later hung out with a dancer friend of mine that I hadn't seen in a while. I intend to come back and play for Tamara's classes again in the coming weeks, catch up with old friends and make some new ones. Stay tuned for more pics. Cafe Citron pics by Maryam Aghamiri March 29, 2004 I met Maryam while hanging out between shows. She walked in to Cafe Citron and asked if there was a show tonight. Of course, being one of the performers I made an effort to convince her to stay and watch. Afterwards, she showed me some digital pictures she took of our performance. Naturally, I asked her to send me a few copies. Here they are. Enjoy! And thank you Maryam! Sara Jerez-Marlow in Guajiras. March 29, 2004 (photo by Maryam Aghamiri) Miguelito and Gerard Moreno. But since they came from so far we decided to do another show to reward them for their efforts. Thanks guys! Yours truly as I play my introduction for solea por bulerias. The broadcast was last week. Thanks to Juan Landers for the photos. Fox 5 reporter Holly Morris (in the light-blue sweater) prepares for the broadcast while the camera person looks for a good angle. How brave she is! :)March 27, 2004 (photo by Juan Landers) My music was broadcast via a wireless microphone attached to my guitar, but you couldn't see me.
