Flamenco love in the air?

As of today, the most popular answer in my latest poll (what is your flamenco new year's resolution?) indicates that flamencos are more interested in finding a flamenco-loving boyfriend/girlfriend than practicing regularly and losing weight:

31.2% Find a bf/gf who likes flamenco too
18.7% Practice regularly
18.7% Lose weight to fit into my costume
12.5% Save up for a trip to Spain

I'm a little surprised by these results, but it probably has to do with the time of the year. I read in today's Washington Post:

This is what Kristin Kelly, Match.com's vice president of love, calls the "New Year's resolution phenomenon," when many singles use the turn of the calendar as a chance to turn around their love lives. It starts Dec. 26...

So don't take the poll results too seriously. At any other time of the year (except maybe Valentine's Day) I'm pretty sure we DC flamencos are more interested elevating el Arte than finding that special someone to share in our obsession.

Attention blog editors

I noticed in my logs that some of you had trouble logging into your accounts. Looks like a few of you have already figured it out: the login name is case-sensitive. For example, if you're login name is "Miguelito" you must type a capital "M." If you try to use a lower-case "m," the software will reject the login. Thanks for your patience as we all learn the quirks of this blog software. Now you know!

Also, when you login you'll see a lot of features that you'll probably try to click on but cannot access. It can be "daunting" as one blog editor mentioned. The only features enabled for your level of access: "Add a new entry," "Edit an entry" and "Upload files." That's all you need to make yourself heard on the DC Flamenco Blog!

Early morning flamenco

If you're up this early, Ginette, Shahram and yours truly, Miguelito, will be in a brief TV spot on Fox News 7:30am this Friday December 31st to promote our shows in First Night Alexandria. Here are some pics from the last time yours truly was on Fox.

Citron pics by Maynol Moreno

Added pics from last night at Cafe Citron. Lots of good ones taken by my friend Maynol Moreno. Photo Diary

Last night, Sara Candela joined our show at Las Tapas. It was the first time she performed on a Tuesday night here. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera (bad miguelito! bad miguelito!). But I noticed a few people in the audience with digital cameras and I gave 'em my card so they could email me some pics. Stay tuned!

We're still in testing mode

Just to remind all of you, this blog is new software and I'll be testing it for another week or so to see if any technical problems come up. If it continues to work as well as it has so far, I'll officially make it part of the DC Flamenco website and announce it on my front page.

I setup a few "blog contributor" accounts for a selected group of DC flamencos to test out the software as well. If this blog passes the user-friendliness test by these blog contributors, I'll add more accounts gradually.

Cool Photo Diary format

I was at the website for a band called "Sloan." They have a cool photo diary that's more interactive. Take a look.

Fans can leave comments and even submit photos and have them displayed on the same page. Any thoughts on using this format for DC Flamenco?

If you know of any other websites with photo diary/album formats that you think would work well with DC Flamenco, give me the URL and I'll take a look.

More space to write

What I love about the blog format is that I have more space to write stuff. I can even include a picture alongside the text. That's dancer Ginette Perea with whom I'll have the pleasure of performing with on New Year's Eve. Details.

Class cancelled tonight

There's no class that's really cancelled. This is just a demonstration.

Wouldn't it be so convenient for local teachers to be able to make last minute announcements here, at the flamenco information center for DC?

Testing this feature

With this blog software, I can setup password-protected accounts for specific members of the DC flamenco community that allows them to publish announcements, such as the one you're reading right now, directly to this website. Of course, as the owner of DC Flamenco, I'd have the authority to edit or delete as I see fit.

New Year's Eve at Jaleo

Just heard that each of the Jaleo restaurants will have a pair of Sevillanas dancers for New Year's Eve: Edwin Aparicio and Sara Candela (DC), Marta Chico Martin and Jason Vera y Aragon (Crystal City) and Sara Jerez and Aleksey Kulikov (Bethesda). More info at Jaleo.

Testing the new blog format

A few months ago, one of my website visitors suggested that I should change the front page to a blog format (short for weblog) since my "News and Updates" column seems to function as blog already. A blog is a sort of daily journal that's become one of the hottest trends on the Internet these days. So let me know what you think of this blog idea and if I get enough positive feedback, I'll change the website over to this format.
