Miguelito's Photo Diary

Cafe Citron November 8, 2004

I had such a busy weekend, it felt like a vacation coming to "work" here at Citron. Of course, it doesn't feel like work when so many friends come to see me.

Alejandra and Adreina (both from Colombia). Perhaps you may remember Alejandra from my photo diary in January. November 8, 2004 (photo by Nancy)

Madiha and Miguelito. Madiha (from Pakistan) is a great friend who happens to come regularly to Citron and always boosts business by bringing more people. You can she's my PR manager. :) Thanks Madiha! November 8, 2004

Miguelito, Sarika (from India) and Nico (from Peru). You remember Sarika. She came to Citron two weeks ago.November 8, 2004

Thanks to all my friends (new and old) who come to Citron. It's always a blast!

Arte Flamenco at the Gaithersburg Arts Barn November 6, 2004

I always enjoy working with Arte Flamenco. Under the guidance of an artistic director like Natalia Monteleon, it's very likely some of these dancers will become the up-and-coming performers of tomorrow.

Just arrived at the Barn! November 6, 2004 5:38pm

View from the back row. As you can see, I had plenty of time to kill. It seems I'm always waiting for dancers to arrive or get ready. :) November 6, 2004 5:46pm

Cafe Citron November 1, 2004

It was election night eve and where were all the people? A lot of 20-something people frequent Cafe Citron. I suppose a lot of them are either college interns or young employees at politically active organizations and were probably hard-at-work doing some last-minute campaigning. In any case, quiet nights like these serve as a break from the enthusiastic but noisy crowds when the place gets packed--yes it does get packed here on a Monday! We had a small but very appreciative audience. My thanks to my friends who came out this evening.

Silvana, Cindy and Daniela. It's unusual to see all the servers sitting down to relax at the same time. But it was a slow night. November 1, 2004 9:10pm

It's always fun when we get the audience involved. But please note that it's not an open stage--you must be invited by the performers before you can get on the stage, please. November 1, 2004 9:27pm (photo by ?)

Arte Flamenco rehearsal October 31, 2004

This was a rehearsal to prepare for Arte Flamenco's upcoming show at the Gaithersburg Arts Burn for Saturday November 6th. Director Natalia Monteleon is known for training dancers who have become very much in demand as performers in the DC area. I personally perform on a regular basis with many of her former students! Having been involved in the DC flamenco scene since 1991 I've had the pleasure of seeing many up-and-coming dancers develop into the experienced artists of today.

This Saturday's performance will take place at the Gaithersburg Arts Barn, a relatively new facility with a first class well-equipped theater. It has only 99 seats which actually is a good thing. It's more intimate, very much the way flamenco was meant to be enjoyed. Plus, you too will be able to sit back and relax and think to yourself (like I do) "Hmmmm...which one of these up-and-coming dancers will become tomorrow's in-demand performer?"

Featured dancers Anna Menendez, Aleksey Kulikov, Marta Chico Martin, Jason Vera y Aragon and of course Natalia Monteleon.

Come see for yourself, but buy your tickets early, seating is very limited! Call 301-258-6394.

Felicia German workshop October 29, 2004

Felicia German (who previously studied flamenco here in the DC area with Natalia Monteleon et al but now lives in Spain) gave a five-day workshop last week at Experimental Movement Concepts studio in Baltimore. She writes:

"So, I“m back in Spain and am very pleased with how the workshop went in Baltimore. My students were enthusiastic and very bright. They learned an entire bulerķas por fiesta in five days! I was also very pleased that Tamara and Beth (both teachers at EMC) joined the class."

"In general I felt very warmly welcomed back into the Baltimore/DC flamenco community after having been out of touch for a while. Stacie Lanier, director of EMC was also very supportive and well organized. Her studio is beautiful, I encourage people to get involved with EMC."

"I look forward to the next time and hope to be able to do some work in both Baltimore and DC. Gracias, Besos y abrazos! Felicia"
