Flamenco Show at Catalán West featuring Torcuato Zamora

Saturday November 11, 2000 by Miguelito

Flamenco guitarist Torcuato Zamora is credited with bringing flamenco to the Washington DC area and he was also known for putting together tablao shows in restaurants with more dancers than anyone else! At Catalán West (now closed but located 1319 F St NW DC) he performed with no less than four flamenco dancers which changed from week to week. This particular Saturday featured Sara Candela, Sara Jerez, Marta Chico Martín and Anna Menéndez.

As a busy flamenco guitarist myself, it was hard to make it out to Torcuato's show on a Saturday or maybe in this case I had the night off. Chef Javier Arze's food was amazing and while the restaurant decor was very elegant it was outshadowed by the beauty and talent of the flamenco dancers and the inspiration from Torcuato's guitar and voice.
