What? You say? Flamenco in Richmond, Virginia? Well folks it happened right here just an hour ago and I'm still in a tizzy - um - tango - um -fandango - well - you know! Where? A place called Emilio's Tapa's BAr 1847 W. Broad Street (804-359-1224). Emilio's is owned by - guess who? a Sevillana, named Emilio! I don't know his last name but I have been going there for a while now and savoring the great food and now - Ole'! Flamenco music. In fact I just gave him a big hug for announcing that now a couple more times a month, in addition to every Friday, he will try to gather those interested in real Flamenco music, dance and singing together to bring what he remembers most fondly from his native town, to Richmond.
It's not hard to get to Emilio's either - just come down I-95 past the I-64 West turnoff in Richmond and exit and the next (Boulevard ) exit. Take a right onto Boulevard and a left at the light. Then in a block (next to the Diamond ballpark) turn right onto Hermitage and follow that about 1/4 mi to Broad St. At that point Emilio's is stareing you in the face on the opposite side of the street on the southeast corner. Park on Broad. Please come down and support (and participate in!) this great effort and have some of the most exquisite Spanish food on this continent - oh yeah! and come on Flamenco night - most Friday's starting at 6 - 9PM or call during the week for "spontaneous" erruptions of duende!!
